English 2000 Guineas Day and the end of the 2008 foaling season in sight |
| Stariya with her Barathea filly enjoying the warm sunshine
| All eyes turn towards Newmarket today and it is time to take out riding boots | With only two mares left to foal and all the mares covered (and hopefully in foal!) the 2008 stud season comes to a close shortly. This will allow us to get back to our early morning routine of riding out first lot at Mr John Oxx\'s Currabeg Stables. This is all the more exciting as the yard seems to have plenty of promising prospects. My favourite, the four year old mare Hasanka (by Kalanisi), makes her seasonal debut on Monday at the Curragh but her main objective is the St Leger at the end of the season. We have had positive reports from Newmarket about the progress of Khayar (Refuse to Bend - Khatela) and Theola (Kalanisi - Third Dimension), while Barry Hills seems to be positive about Damien (Namid - Miss Shaan) being a sharp two year old type. Spring is a great time of year, there is so much hope and expectation! Update: Aidan O\'Brien\'s Henrythenavigator (by Kingmambo) beats Jim Bolger\'s winter favourite New Approach (by Galileo). It is a one-two for the Irish in the first English Classic of the year and what a great start for Johnny Murtagh in his new job as Ballydoyle Stable Jockey!
